Utilizing the natural environment to create immersive spaces
This project explores the integration of architecture with the natural environment, creating a home that is both sheltered from the elements and in harmony with its surroundings. Instead of excavating the space, the design uses the existing form of a cave in the side of a mountain to establish a unique and sustainable home. Geometric, crystalline-like structures are embedded into the mountain, with strategically placed apertures allowing light to enter from multiple angles, enhancing the connection between the interior and the natural landscape. The repetition in the form, along with principles of stability inspired from traditional mineshaft support systems, ensures the structure’s resilience while blending in with the rock.
